Maria You Are In Our Hearts Now and Forever

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

Dear Maria,

All of us who have been blessed to know you, and share in the beauty of the soul that you Are, are deeply saddened by your absence. A diamond that shines like the sun does not begin to describe the love that you radiated to all of us every time we were graced in your presence. Through your Son, Kenny, you live and shine on for all to see, and His strength, grace and integrity of character are all a tribute to the constant flow of love and affection that you gave in your life. Thank you for being in our lives, and showing us all what it means to be a Real, Down to Earth, Angel. We love you and we thank God for you, and we celebrate your life. All of us who knew you still feel you in the air we breathe, whispering in our ears “Call Kenny… Where is He?.. What did eat today?..” and we will honor your memory by helping assist Kenny to complete the goals and dreams that you two set out to accomplish together, from basketball to college and beyond. We are committed to Being Here for Kenny as you assist from the other side, and we remember you now and always. I love you Maria, you are in my heart forever, and I will do all that I can to be a true friend, sister, and family member to Kenny, my little brother, from this day on.

IN ETERNAL APPRECIATION FOR YOU,

Kelli Maria

Maria,
You were and you are a blessing to me and everyone that came into contact with you. I enjoyed having you as a neighbor, friend and someone to confide in. Christmas Eve of 2008 we spent together talking until 3 am. That Christmas morning is a memory I will never forget. The Joy and energy you possessed showed everyone in their darkest moments the light of hope. My family and I are and everyone who knew you are all deeply saddened by this sinless accident. I continue to ask myself why you, a graceful and courageous women of all people would be taken from us. I will forever miss your outgoing upbeat courageous spirit. Although we loved you…. GOD loved you best. Despite the obstacles you had in your life, you never gave up hope. You always had positive energy to spread to everyone you came into contact with.
Your memory will always be treasured and will be missed by all. I missed your phone call that day at 2:20 and I know you were calling to share good news like always. Maria I love you and I know you’re looking down on Kenny, your family and friends with a smile on your face telling us to continue to live everyday to our fullest because tomorrow is not promised to anyone. You never got the chance to attend church with me due to your busy schedule with Kenny and his games and I understood. Kenny, you were, you are and will always be your mother’s pride and joy; she lived for you. Continue to live your dreams and play every game as if your mother was in those stands rooting for her baby and his team. Kenny, you know have a guarding angel watching over you.

May your soul rest in Peace Maria
Love You Always, Yashica Simpson

When I first met Maria, I was struck by how vibrant and warmhearted she was. It was as if every day was a birthday and every moment was a gift to be opened. Maria listened with immense understanding, spoke with great enthusiasm and had a unique gift of embracing everything with the joy and innocence of a child. One couldn’t help but be drawn to her. She inspired me as an artist, as a mother and as a human being. Underneath her humble demeanor, was a visionary, a life coach and a spiritual leader who led by example and never asked for anything in return. Savanah and I will miss her dearly.

To Maria & Kenny

To Maria,

You were a goddess, a wonderful mother, a great friend, you were simply a ray of sunlight whose love for life and your son shone upon anyone who met you. I am blessed to have had you for a friend and sister in this struggle & blessing called life. To have laughed with you razzing refs and telling you to leave Kenny alone while he mugging in a game. Thank you for your generosity and beautiful smile. I am honored to call you an Angel.

Kenny – I wish I could hold you and make this all go away. But I take solice in knowing your mom left a legacy of people like myself who honor and love you both. I am here for you period. In any way, be it a place to stay, a meal, a ride that someone else can\’t give. Expect to see me in the stands next year during your varsity games along with the girls, we will be there to cheer you on. Do not ever hesitate to call me.

We will miss you

Friday, May 29th, 2009

My family was very sad to hear this tragic news. We know Maria and Kenny from West Marin Soccer, where Kenny played with our son Calvin on the West Marin Riot team. Maria was a devoted mother to Kenny and he is a living testament to her care and loving nature. Maria was fun to be around and always had a smile or laugh to share. We will miss Maria and the joy and love she brought to this earth. Kenny, you will be in our thoughts and prayers. Stephen, Wendy and Calvin

Maria Maria…
It took me this few days to get myself together but I had to shake out of it because I know you would NOT have wanted me to be down. Since the first time I met you and our sons played B-Ball together I knew you were a special lady. My family and I will hold on dearly to all of our memories with you. I never imagined that the hug we shared on Friday or the laughs we shared on Saturday would be our last on this earth but it gives me comfort that I know you were an ANGEL to all here on earth so I know without a doubt that you are now an ANGEL in HEAVEN! You had been nothing less than a Blessing to Me, Chinna, LaKim and BreAnne and we will forever hold you in a close special place in our hearts, WE LOVE YOU MARIA MIKELL!!!

Support for Kenny

Friday, May 29th, 2009

My name is Dani Fishman and I work at Marin Education Fund where Kenny is a part of our Summer Application Institute college preparation program. He has been a joy to work with for the past year and our entire staff was deeply sorry to hear the news of Maria’s passing. While I only met Maria a handful of times, she was a kind and gracious person and an extremely supportive and dedicated mother. We all want to assure Kenny that we are here to support him in any way that we can.

Blessings,

Dani

Hey Kenny,
I can’t imagine what you’re going through right now, but know that if you need anything (money, advice, a place to stay, someone to talk to), you can give me a call anytime day or night. Your Mom was/is a great woman who we all loved and who loves you more than anything, no matter where you are. Rich (coach, Jesse’s dad)
